Throughout anyones school c arer, you here a good amount of racialism in history, whether it be the United States or the worlds. but does race provide originator, or is it just an end turn up of power, if you look at that history youve studied it is always the ones in power, the majority, that are being racist. Look at the French, the English and yes, the Americans, all were racist because they already had the power. Racism is the outcome of power, if you have power, you go away ascertain above those that seem different than you. Jamaica Kincaid feels that race is a false idea and she has right to, once you see power taken away from the ones that held it, they are no longer above they are equal therefore feel less different and race becomes less important. One quotation that shows how Kincaid feels pertaining to race and power is …. once you cease to be a master, once you throw off your masters yoke, you are no longer human rubbish, you are just a human being… (Kincaid 81). Her repetition of human being, which she uses in the previous quote, gives that sense that everyone is similar. But, at the beginning of the quote it dialog about ceasing to be a master, a.k.a. not having that power, you are therefore equal, a human being.
Another quote would have to be when she talks about the English conquests, …everywhere they went they saturnine into England, and everybody they met turned English. But no person could ever really be England, and nobody that did not look exactly look analogous them could ever be English… (Kincaid 24). Kincaid never says race was a prevalent factor but she says those with power were above those who could never be English, those who did not look the same as the English. course is a factor in history, it pertains to power, but is not power, it is the go forth of those being in power and above those who look different. magnate is race but race isnt power.
