A regularity for detecting carbonate in marine solid samples (sediments, corals) by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) coupled to the total attenuated reflectance (ATR) technique is described. Compared to other techniques, the proposed method is not based on the measurement of carbon dioxide evolved by combustion or acidification of the sample, but on the control measurement of carbonate present in the sample. For this reason, the method by FTIR-ATR spectroscopy does not require any chemical pre-treatment. The proposed method allows determination of carbonate in the range 6 hundred% (w/w) as Na2CO3 and gives comparable results with the determination of inorganic carbon by elemental abstract.

frozen (220 °C) until the analysis.
Coral samples (Cladocora caespitosa) were collected at Civitavecchia (Tyrrhenian Sea). 2.2 FTIR analysis FTIR analysis was performed on samples previously dried at 40 °C for 24 h at least and because pulverized in an agate mortar. FTIR spectra were obtained by a Jasco 410 spectrophotometer. For the ATR spectra a even ZnSe crystal accessory (Pike Technology model with a 45° incidence angle and 10 internal reflections) for solid samples was used. A reference spectrum of the ZnSe crystal was collected before the measurements were carried out. A deal out of the sample (1 ± 0.01 g) was placed on the ZnSe crystal and the optimal while away between sample and ATR crystal was obtained by impregnating the sample with acetone.7...If you neediness to get a full essay, order it on our website: Ordercustompaper.com
