Id like to share an example of personal use of computer on company time and its impact on the business as a whole. This story is about a small third party company that repairs medical equipment. This company had an issue with employees
using business computers for personal emails and much importantly instant messages (IM).
The manager noned a decrease in productivity over a three month utmost once he started going out of the office more often either for sales calls or to repair equipment on job sites.
In trying to print some reports, the director noted he could read instant messages on the computers and started rendition what the employees were writing to each other and to other people. There were hours and hours of IMs to spouses homework what was for dinner, making shopping lists and even house hunting betwixt one couple. There were IMs between employees even when the director was there.
