The food that the students would be consuming outside of school may not be as healthy as what the cafeteria has to offer. The school can not trust that all of the students eating out would be going to Subway or Togos, which has sandwiches of much more nutritional value than that of McDonalds or Burger King. A Big Mac meal from McDonalds has 1,260 calories in it, which is everywhere half of the amount of calories that the average person needs in one day.
Many students are already spending more or less two dollars on a bag of chips and a soda pop for lunch. After school, many are going to McDonalds every day, which does not help at all. Fast food restaurants are not as healthy as what is offered in the cafeteria.
Open campus would be hazardous to students, because they would not be under any sound supervision. The school would be liable for any accidents or injuries to a student. If a student were to get hurt, their parents would feel as though it was unacceptable to allow their son or daughter to leave school without any supervision. No one would benefit from open campus.
