Iago yearns for power. He resents the power and privilege that goes with the higher social class, and it turns him vengeful. He plots to ruin Cassius for gaining the position he wanted. He resents Othello for his power, and plots to ruin his race and sanity with Desdemona. Iago has the idea that he has been wronged in some way, and feels authorize to manipulate events to get what he wants. Othello has the power and privilege that Iago so desperately wants. He is successful in many areas. He is a champion on the battlefield and a cheeseparing leader, as well. He easily wins Desdemonas heart, and continues to have great success. He is, therefore, the target of Iagos envy. Iago will plot to ruin those around him in an attempt to ruin Othello. The reason for which Iago hates Othello arent really clear. At firstborn it faces he is plotting because Othello gave the job of lieutenant to Cassio who has never before fought on a battle field unlike Iago, making Iago guess he is more qualified. But later on in the play, Iago is made lieutenant yet he still continues and agrees to vote out Cassio. Soon after that, he said he knew of rumors that Othello slept with his wife.
