Syrinx, a short animated film by talented Canadian painter and sculptor, Ryan Larkin, is resembling an ancient forest that you can walk in to it and jot again.
This animation is the first film of Ryan Larkin(1943-Â?2007), a young artist from Norman McLarens student group in discipline film board of Canada. To illustrate the ancient Greek fiction of how Pan made his pipes, Ryan employs various charcoal sketches. Before that he had developed a unique technique involving stop-Â?frame fulfill with charcoal that was easy to abolish. Using a strong tab of paper, Larkin was able to draw deeply into the paper and still erase it. With his natural control over timing and pacing over any object-Â?as Norman Mclaren said ab kayoed him-Â?the movements of figures in his film are so fluid and graceful.
As Larkin was a painter, he knew the importance of the composition of his figures with their background very easily and he applied this knowledge in his animation as well so the composition of figures and their backgrounds in most of the scenes creates single moving paintings.
Larkin was an expert animator and it was easy for him to animate more than in this film, but he has animated just when it was needed in the best way. The nymph and the satyr extricate themselves out of the diffuse background slowly and gracefully.
This is one of the strong points of his civilize; Movement is like a secret that he sometimes reveals it for his viewer.
